What will you become when you grow up

When he was a kid, he used to think he will become a train driver (preferably steam engine) when he grew up

When he was in primary school, he thought he will become a civil engineer and build big dams when he grew up

When he was in college, he thought he will earn huge money and do cutting edge work in computer science when he grew up a bit more

Now that he is working, he thinks he will start a company when he has grown up a bit more

When is he going to grow up? Will he achieve what he thinks?

As a kid his imagination knew no bounds, as he grew up his thinking got marginalised by responsibilities and his own mind.

Ultimately will he get used to all this, and get into the dull routine of ordinary existence?

Can the 'kid' in him come out of the boundaries he has set himself?

Can he find way which meets the aspirations and does not deviate from the responsibilities?

Will he again grow up to become a 'kid' knowing no boundaries?

PS: Here 'he' refers to any one who has undergone this thought process, not just me.

Narshima -- I agree with you, but you must understand that certain keywords like "companyA" and/or "companyB" come in the way of dreams! :-)

I couldnt agree with you more on these have aptly pointed out how we loose out in reaching out to our aspirations ..but we have to look at examples of people who have overcome all obstacles to achieve their goals..and having done that realize that the onus lies on us to plunge forward to acheive what we want to..probably its the lack of will ,efforts and determination what fails some of us

Saw a nice quote today (of course something that applies to me in the first place as much as anybody else ;-) )

You must go after your wish. As soon as you start to pursue a dream, your life wakes up and everything has meaning.

Barbara Sher
(American author of "I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was"

Another book I liked is Awaken The Giant Within You by Anthony Robbins - its a bit stereotyped and predictable in some places, and over-verbose in plenty of other places but if one manages to stay awake through them, there are quite a few good ideas.

For sure no book or anything else can help us, it comes down to the choices we make :-)

I wanted to be a bus driver when I was a kid. I still do, but I am used to software lifestyles now... :)

My next dream was to become a scientist and send rockets in space.

Then I wanted to become an automobile engineer.

Then I wanted to teach...

For sometime I thought I would join politics!

I think its the fear of "ifs-and-buts" which is preventing him from going out all open.Life is about taking decisions straight out of the mind bypassing all filters. The sad truth is that we are connected with so many people and so many incidents. The matrix we are in,is too large to take an independent decision.

Came here via a ./ thread btw.Nice blog.

I think he dreams because he is unaware that it might be difficult for him not to, in his future, that is. It is the absence of fear that makes him dream.

As he grows up, he faces fear...fear that tells him that he might not be able to do what he wants... it is fear that might deal the deadly blow to his dreams.....not responsibilities.

Well, so long Chikki.
