It is not all about tech...

It is not all about tech. A product might not succeed even if it is technically great and may end up in museums like this one.

Why does this happen? Some of such questions are answered in this book: "The 22 immutable laws of marketing" (Al Ries & Jack Trout). The book is very readable and is not filled up with marketing buzzwords.
